It may not give away much about the new 007 movie, but the hordes of James Bond followers will just be glad for something, following the release of the first picture showing Daniel Craig in Skyfall.
The film is not out until October 26 so all fans have for now is just the usual internet rumours regarding the storyline and cast details which have revealed Javier Bardem and Ralph Fiennes are involved with the production.
All that is known about the 23rd Bond is that the super-spy will have to track down the perpetrators of an attack on MI6, while facing complications regarding his relationship with M (Judi Dench).
It has been revealed that the season two premiere of the hit fantasy series Game Of Thrones will only be delayed by a day in the United Kingdom following its screening in the United States.
Our American friends have traditionally enjoyed watching shows weeks or months ahead of us, but Sky Atlantic viewers will be able to tune in to the channel and watch the premiere on April 2.
With just over two months to wait until the world of George RR Martin’s A Song Of Ice And Fire is revisited means that fans can now look to what they can expect in the second season.
It is normally well into July when we start to see the blockbuster movies released at cinemas, but it seems like many of the big names are being released early to prolong their shelf life even further.
The final instalment of the Harry Potter franchise may not be out until the 15th of July, when you’ll finally get to see Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 2, but Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is out this week, The Hangover 2 is out on the 27th of May and X-Men: First Class is out on the 3rd of June.
We won’t have to wait too long to see Transformers: Dark of the Moon either, as it is due for release in UK cinemas on the 1st of July.
If, like me, you can’t wait until the first part of The Hobbit reaches UK cinemas, then for now there is the videoblog - a Hobbit video diary made by the director Peter Jackson.
I was fortunate enough to visit the set of Hobbiton when visiting New Zealand back in January when they were putting the finishing touches to the village, so can quite imagine where Peter is standing as he introduces us to Bilbo’s abode in Middle-earth.
Be sure to check out the videoblog for yourself on the last few weeks of pre-production, which will give you an insight into the exciting journey which is about to begin.
The Golden Globe nominations are out and it certainly looks as though The King’s Speech is in line for host of awards.
The Golden Globes are a prestigious set of awards that traditionally give good insight into the major winners at the Oscars ceremony which takes place in February. All the signs point towards a successful awards season for The King’s Speech, which sees Colin Firth take the lead role as King George VI who famously overcame a speech impediment when he ascended to the British throne.
It would be a good idea for Firth, co-stars Helena Bonham Carter and Geoffrey Rush and director Tom Hooper to brush up on their own speeches if early predictions concerning the film’s success are to ring true.
Film adaptations of great books rarely work, even when the subject matter is relatively simple and the structure of the narrative is perfectly linear. Of course, there have been exceptions to this rule in recent years, with adaptations like ‘The Road’, ‘Revolutionary Road’ and ‘Brokeback Mountain’ making very successful and critically-acclaimed films.
However, sometimes it seems that Hollywood bites off more than it can chew. William Faulkner’s classic account of the tragic Compson family in the gothic American South, ‘The Sound and the Fury’ has already been adapted once without a great deal of success.
The novel is one of the true greats of postmodern American literature and it features a fractured and at times very confusing narrative. It’s hard to imagine how Hollywood will manage an adaptation as ambitious as this one, but it has been reported that someone, somewhere is planning exactly that. The project will need filmmakers of the highest order if it is ever to do justice to this exceptional book.
When we move into the Christmas period we can always expect a number of really exciting films. Lots of the main Oscars contenders hit the screens in the UK in December and January and one that is causing a stir is Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan.
Black Swan stars Natalie Portman and Vincent Cassel and promises sterling support from the likes of Mila Kunis. Ostensibly, the film is about a ballet dancer who wins the leading role in Swan Lake, but fans of Aronofsky won’t be surprised to hear that the tale is much more disturbing than its basic description suggests.
This film is likely to feature in the Oscars line-up in several different categories, with Aronofsky, Portman and Cassel bringing serious credentials to the production.
The old yet still popular TV comedy show Only Fools And Horses is soon to be back on our screens yet again, but this time it we get to see where it all began in a prequel to the series.
Writer, John Sullivan has said that the prequel will surround Del Boy’s father Freddy Robdal. Also Nicholas Lyndhurst is back, he played Rodney in the original show but now he is to play Freddy The Frog - a gangster from Peckham who funny enough is actually Rodneys dad.
The BBC hasn’t given the final go ahead to get a move on with developing the series but Sullivan is confident it will happen saying:-
“Nick and I are both on board the train, if you like, waiting to arrive at the station.”
Michael Caine has confirmed that the third installment to the Batman franchise is a long way off.
Caine has played Alfred Pennyworth in the two most recent Batman films Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. He hopes to reprise his role as the superheros butler in the new movie however, fears its going to take some time before this happens because director Christopher Nolan is very busy on other movies.
Caine said:
“Christopher is doing a picture called Inception with Leonardo DiCaprio which I saw on the Internet. So I imagine another Batman is quite a long way away.
“If they do another one, I’ll probably be the butler. I hope I’m still alive. Michael Gough, who played Batman before me, the last time he played in Batman he was 84.”
He is confident that Nolan will return to direct the next Batman movie and has dropped a hint that the next super villain will be The Ridder, who was originally played by Jim Carrey in the 1995 version Batman Forever directed by Joel Schumacher.
Producer Michael Uslan has estimated that it wont be until 2011 before this film will hit our cinema screens.
Its been a while in the making but finally its been confirmed that a third installment to the popular Sci-Fi movie Ghost Busters. As a nice surprise it looks like the original cast members Harold Ramis, Bill Murray and Dan Akroyd will be returning to reprising their roles.
Harold Ramis (writer-actor) confirmed Murray was 100% featured in the up coming sequel even though they are yet to discuss the project with each other.
Ramis said:
“Gene [Stupnitsky] and Lee [Eisenberg ], both of whom I mentored, are now writing the new Ghostbusters.
“I’m consulting with them, as is Dan Aykroyd and Ivan Reitman. Bill Murray is just waiting for the truckload of money to arrive to get him out of his office.”
Speaking about Murray, he added:-
“I haven’t talked to him about it. I want to talk to him about it eventually. I think we just need a script, because he’s the thorniest of the group.”
