David Tennant has commented on making Billi Piper his replacement on the hit TV show. Billie would be the first women to play the doctor if it were to happen.
He was asked on BBC Breakfast if Piper could land the role, he said:-
“Why not?”
Tennant added: “I think she’s busy breast feeding at the moment but I’m sure she’ll bounce back before long. It’s one of those parts that any actor could bring something valid to, because it can be anything and it’s a sort of blank canvas every time,” he said.
“The fact is that the difference is a virtue with each Doctor. It’s not like you’re casting Tarzan where you’ve got to have somebody who looks good in a loin cloth - it can be anything.”
Although Jonathan Ross has been suspended for twelve weeks due to his antics with Russel Brand in October, he has been allowed to film the celebrity edition of The Apprentice.
The show is for comic relief. Ross will not be taking any payment for presenting the show as its for charity and the fact that Sir Alan Sugar offered him the role back in May and it will not be aired until 3 months after his suspension is finished, the BBC allowing this to take place as a one off.
A BBC insider said: “Jonathan was in a difficult position as his suspension came just days before filming began on the show. Pulling out at such short notice would have left producers with a headache.”
A spokesman added: “The BBC agreed to Jonathan Ross taking part in an advance recording of Comic Relief Does The Apprentice. The BBC did not wish to disadvantage the charity.”
Kylie Minogue, after much speculation has decided to go back to her roots and begin acting again.
The Austrilian singer was first seen on our screens years ago back on Neighbours where she found fame but became a singing sensation soon after and hasn’t really taken up TV acting ever since. That was until she guest stared in Doctor Who in a christmas special last year, which seems to have re-lit her acting ambition.
“I started out as an actress and I thought if I was lucky that would be my career,” Minogue explained. “Then I started singing and I was in that weird space where people say: ‘You can’t be a singer, you’re an actress.’ Then they’re saying: ‘Well you’re a singer, you can’t be an actress.’
“I hate that! If you’re creative, there’s no reason you shouldn’t work in different mediums. Recording and being a performer, thankfully that’s gone really well, but now I’m starting to think again about acting.”
Kylie wants to try something a little new and would prefer to act in comedy for a change. Whether it will work or not is yet to be seen but she is ademant this is what she wants to do saying:-
“It’s so much fun. It’s where I come from so I’m very comfortable to go back to that. It’s not that well known that I’m funny, but I am funny. People who know me will tell you.”
The NBC have decided to shake things up by firing two of their writers who had been there from the beginning.
The victims were Co-exective producers Jesse Alexander and writter Jeph Loeb, they were also responsible for the day to day production of the TV show under the guidance of creator Tim Kring. They got the chop after a fall in ratings following the third season even though Universal Media Studios have gone over their budget of $4mill per episode.
It has now been left for Tim Kring to dig the show out of this hole and bump up its ratings. It is still promising that a fourth season of the show will arise but sheds of doubt are looming.
Due to the recent events following Jonathan Ross’s and Russell Brands prank call to Andrew Sachs, he has decided to stand down from hosting ITV’s 2008 British Comedy Awards.
Ross has been suspended without pay for 12 weeks and the BBC have issued a final warning regarding his conduct on the Radio 2 Broadcast earlier in October which caused thousands of complaints.
ITV’s director of television Peter Fincham commented: “We respect Jonathan’s decision to stand down from the 2008 British Comedy Awards which has been made with the full support of ITV and the show’s producers.” The event will still be broadcast as scheduled on ITV1 in December.
A spokesperson for Ross said: “It’s a show he very much enjoys being part of but would not want his participation in this year’s event to take away from the awards themselves or the many talented winners of the awards.”
The first episode in the new series of Britannia High was expected to dominate the ratings when it was broad casted on Oct 26th but to ITV’s surprise, the teen drama didn’t live up to expectation and was smashed by BBC’s Antiques Roadshow.
The Antiques Roadshow was first shown on our screens back in 1977 and has been a success for the BBC ever since. Michael Apel used to host the show but has since been replaced by Fiona Bruce for the current series.
ITV’s £2 Million show could only scrape together 3.3 million viewers whereas the oldies favorite took the lime light with 8.8 million viewers (38% share), who would prefer to watch local residence across the UK purchasing antiques.
ITV’s Britannia High is said to be a mix of popular programs such as ‘Fame’ & ‘High School Musical’ which follows the story of 6 preforming art school students. ITV has spent an awful lot on the show in advertising over the couple of months to draw in its target audience (youth) but was no match for the Antiques Roadshow cross generational appeal.
ITV bosses are still remaining hopeful saying that:-
Britannia High had made a solid start in a competitive schedule.
ITV still plan to go ahead with a the arena tour and single they had originally planned from the show. They are also planning to increase the shows awareness by launching a range of multi-media spin-offs such as creating personal pages for each character on social networking sites. The final episode of the series will see a live 75minute contest between the shows characters which ITV believes will be a great success.
Fern Britton had been struggling with depression and has recently revealed that she attempted suicide during this bad patch in her life.
Fern said that it all started after she was caught drink driving in a friends car back in her early 20’s. She says that being banned from driving, she started to feel isolated and then depression kicked in.
When she was 25 the TV presenter did get her licence back however, this was in the wake of a breakup witha long term boyfriend.
“One afternoon I decided I couldn’t bear the pain any longer, and I sat down and opened a bottle of paracetamol,”
“All I wanted was to sleep, sleep, sleep. I tipped the bottle, poured myself a handful of pills and swigged them down with whisky. I didn’t take the whole bottle, as if I didn’t know whether or not it was what I wanted.”
It was a former boyfriend who came to the rescue. He called her sister soon after she took the pills who lived nearby and informed her of the situation. Fern said she was “lucky” to be alive.
Mariah Carey is promoting her new single ‘I Stay In Love’ and will be doing so on The X Factor sometime next month.
“Mariah is one of the most successful female artists of all time,” a source told The Sun. “It’s going to blow Strictly Come Dancing out the water.
“Simon loves Mariah - he’s always comparing acts to her. And finally all the compliments have paid off. It’s amazing to have such a big name singing on a British talent show.”
Mariah is only one of the big names to be seen on the show, others such as Britney Spears, Will Young and Beyoncé are also scheduled for the hit Saturday talent show in the next following months.
I was personally a little shocked to see Ruth in the bottom two last week on Saturday nights X Factor and even after her fantastic version of Purple Rain, could have still be given the boot from the previous poll however, that all may have been due due an error in the telephone voting numbers.
This was highlighted by Fans of Spanish singer Ruth Lorenzo who complained because the wrong number was shown at one stage during the programme.
“We tried for an hour and a quarter, but the lines were busy all the time,” Lorenzo’s mum Eva told The Mirror.
“Then we suddenly realised the number shown on TV was wrong.”
ITV denied this effected the overall outcome resulting in Ruth fighting for her place against Girlband.
A spokesperson commented: “During one short sequence, a single digit was missing from Ruth Lorenzo’s vote number.
“The incorrect number was on screen for less than three seconds, and this was accompanied by an audio announcement giving the correct number.
“The error would not have changed the outcome of the vote.”
Richard McCourt confirmed that he used to take drugs however, stopped due to his doctors advice.
McCourt, presents the children’s TV show ‘Dick and Dom in the Bungalow’ and was filmed during a night out admitting to taking drugs in the past.
He was asked if he had ‘white powder’ on his nose, he said:-
“No… I do not take drugs. You know why? I’ve got a heart problem,” he said.
He continued to confirm that he used to experiment with drugs:-
“When I was young. I am not allowed to do drugs anymore. My doctor said to me, ‘Don’t take drugs again or you will die.’”
