The next series of BBC One’s Points of View is to be hosted by Jeremy Vine after Sir Terry Wogan has taken the decision to step down after 8 years on the show.

Aired in 1961, the Points of View originally had Robert Robinson as the presenter. He was replaced by Barry Took with Alan Titchmarsh and Anne Robinson having a crack at the job.

Vine said the show is a “prime slice of BBC real estate”; he goes on to say that he will make sure he continues to hold the people at the top of the BBC to account in a same way he has done with politicians on Newsnight.

Points of View returns to the TV on 20th April. It will be filmed at the BBC’s White City offices after being based at Birmingham for years.

Head of Studio at BBC Birmingham, Nick Patten has thanked Terry for his input into the show over the 8 years, adding that he has been a pleasure to work with.

Freeview gets HD upgrade in 2009

Good news for owners of HDTVs. Freeview will be broadcast in full HD quality from 2009.

The bad news is that you will need a new set top box to watch the new services.

There will be four free HD channels including the BBCs current service.

Ofcom reports that the new services will add to the range and diversity of TV and contribute to public service broadcasting.
The benefit for broadcasters is enormous as they can launch new services without using any new spectrum.
Users can have access to these services on free to air which is brilliant.
