Jamie Oliver has had a roasting from a local politician who has accused him as portraying the people of Rotherham as ‘Thickos’ in his new TV show Ministry Of Food. Jamie has since publicly praised Rotherham in an effort to smooth things over.
John Gilding is the leader of Rotherham Council’s Tory group, he claims that Jamie Oliver showed the town’s people in a bad way. The part in the show he is relating too is where a mum-of-two is feeding her children fast food which is part of thier daily diet.
Oliver told GMTV: “Rotherham’s a great place, the people are amazing, and it’s actually statistically the most normal town in Great Britain so in theory if anything works there, it could work anywhere in the country.
“I want people from Rotherham to think they’ve been put on the map, they’re wonderful people.
“And actually what they’ve got to realise is what we do in this programme could affect the way that policy and the public react, not just in this country but in other countries.”
I think this is a perfect example of politicians making a mountain out of a mole hill!
