The Olympics are back again with a booming start! Over 5 million viewers tuned in to watch the first day of the Olympic games on friday.

The opening ceremony for the games wasbroadcasted on BBC One  at 12.45pm on friday, it had on averaged 4.91m  viewers over five hours. It hit a peak at 5pm when a massive 5.4m were watching.

At 7pm the highlights were shown on BBC One which still managed to draw in a good 3.93m. Coronation Street stayed at the top of the draw, however, with respective audiences of 7.52mand 6.87m for its 7.30pm and 8.30pm instalments. EastEnders had 7.24m at 8pm, while Emmerdale settled for third place with 5.77m.
